The Invisible Pressure of Popular Culture on Artistic Production

Art increasingly adapts to the rhythm of virality.
A piece is considered “successful” if it can circulate quickly, be consumed instantly, and be forgotten just as fast.

Yet historically, art thrived on the opposite:
slowness, reflection, maturation.

Great artists did not keep up with their era’s pace;
they broke it.

But today, social media places a silent, heavy burden on the artist:

“Create, but create something easily digestible.”

That demand threatens the internal space an artist needs to think, doubt, or simply breathe.

The true power of art lies in its refusal to accelerate.
It invites the viewer to slow down—sometimes painfully.
And that invitation is more radical now than ever.
