On the Unexplainability of Art: A Contemporary Reflection

In recent years, museum walls have become flooded with long curatorial texts—sometimes longer than the artwork deserves.

But the power of art has always been rooted in what cannot be explained.

If we need a paragraph to justify a piece, the work is already wounded.
Explanation is a guide, not a replacement for experience.

When explanation comes before the encounter, the viewer’s gaze is already shaped, already framed, already controlled.

Art doesn’t exist to be understood;
it exists to be experienced.

Meaning is not delivered—it is formed inside the viewer.
And that inner formation is the heart of art’s mystery.
